So what happened to the regular license plate?

Over the last several months I've observed that not all license plates are created equal.
Wyoming has about 4 different shades of backgrounds, Utah has 8 different backgrounds and Nevada has 12 different shades. Only Idaho stuck with only 4 backgrounds shades and limited those to Wildlife patterns. Likewise what cops call vanity plates are only two backing colors and those give you 7 to 8 characters to personalize the plate.
While this all sounds cosmetic to most which over it is, if your wearing a badge you have no real ideas  of who your making a traffic stop on or how to describe the tag from a distance what state it could be or is from.
Rde on top, pearl white middle blue bottom, Idaho plate. Black against a yellowish cream or historical southern Utah blBryce Canyon arches for Utah. Once past that you get WYOMING.  Ten different looks and fewer County designator to where you have no Idea of who, what, and or where it's from. Again it may be comical and cosmetic at first, officer safety is compromised. I think going back to simpler shades and methods of identifying a plate could and should be implimented.otherwise some cop is going to get shot or worse by not knowing the what your making a traffic stop on. Wyoming's tags have always been a few degrees off plumb. First the same numerical of the license plate can be the same except one will be designated as a car or auto plate. The other as a TRUCK plate. Where one could be the illegal decrepancy still it might  be thought of as stolen. Yet as it is unless rural law enforcement that has no education on the matter could call in something that might be stolen yet because the number was not designated as a TRUCK or AUTO/CAR plate.Idaho fixed that problem years ago yet because of a mule headed donkey speed mentality the difference between truck and a car plate is not obvious. Especially at night when 83% of traffic stops happen. Same thing with AI . Spell checkers are cool.  However if what you want to express in written form ain't.  Ever try and argue with Gramercy or Edge? Impossible. It just sucks donkey knongs. We won't delve into that now.
